Description
A Swedish countess is taking her estranged husband back to court for more money - because the $36 million she is getting is not enough. Marie Douglas-David is seeking $100 million - insisting in court papers that she spends $53,000 a WEEK on bare essentials. Douglas-David, 36, was initially offered $70 million by husband George David, 66 - but insists the market crash has halved the value as so much was tied into stocks. Mr David, the United Technologies chairman and former CEO, has a net worth estimated at more than $320 million. The drama in the courtroom in Hartford, Connecticut, became heated as Mrs Douglas-David's lawyer, Bill Beslow, painted the executive as a deceptive womanizer and coldhearted businessman. But far more headline grabbing was Mrs Douglas-David's claims of her financial needs - with her insisting $36 million would not last even 15 years. In court papers, she estimated her expenses to be $53,000 a week, including $27,300 in mortgage and maintenance payments, $8,000 for travel, $4,500 for clothing, $2,209 for a personal assistant and $600 for flowers. The pair married in 2002, but their union was stormy. Between 2004 and 2008, there were five different divorce filings. The court battle continues.
