Description
090811) -- ZHENGZHOU, Aug. 11, 2009 -- Crew head of a narrow-gauge train on the way between Xuchang and Hancheng Zhao Yajuan waits for its departure, central China's Henan Province, on July 24, 2009. The train, running in eastern Henan for nearly half a century, is composed of three passenger carriages, one luggage carriage, one trailer carriage and one locomotive. Like all other trains in China, one head of a train crew, one motorman, one policeman and one attendant on each carriage offer service on the train. The train has been operated on the 762mm narrow gauge with a speed of 20 to 30 kilometers per hour since 1966, covering more than 20 railway stations among counties and villages for a route of 165 kilometers and transporting nearly 300,000 person times every year. It remains original appearance in the 1960s and 1970s and many passengers are quite used to taking the cheap and convenient train, even some reminiscent visitors are attracted here to experience the museum-piece train. The operation of the train is limited here due to the disconnection between narrow gauge and the normal track. As the development and reconstruction carried out among local railways, the half-a-century-year-old narrow-gauge railway will transform its existence to historical heritage sooner or later.
