Description
Hundreds of migratory birds descend on a fishpond for food in the coastal area of Balanga, in Bataan province west of Manila on January 14, 2009. Great Egrets, Little Egrets and Whiskered Terns cross the South China Sea to the Philippines as they escape winter in north Asia according to the Wild Bird Club of the Philippines who conducts annual comprehensive census in 50 to 70 wetland sites around the country as part of the Asian Waterbird Census. The census in Balanga alone counted 15,242 birds of 29 different migratory and endemic species. AFP PHOTO / ROMEO GACAD (Photo credit should read ROMEO GACAD/AFP/Getty Images)
