Description
Landless farmers cultivate a portion of disputed agricultural land in in Santa Catalina town in Negros Oriental province in central Philippines after they occupied the area before dawn on November 6, 2008. Tension has increased after the occupation by the group of 30 farmers in the 61 hectare area of the huge sugar farm land claimed by powerful politician former congressman Herminio Teves. Ten years of legal dispute have barred the farmers from being installed by the Department of Agrarian Reform in the disputed land. The farmers are benificiaires of the government land reform program which critics described as a failure. AFP PHOTO/JES AZNAR (Photo credit should read JES AZNAR/AFP/Getty Images)
